True North Strong & Free

Did a little exploring and also reminiscing of past vacations on Vancouver Island this past weekend all in celebration of 149 years of this country.

The first day on the island we took a stroll around British Columbia's capital. I hadn't been to this area since I was younger so it was all new to me. For Breakfast we stopped at Moli's, having the salmon eggs Benedict. Side note -- Once I started doing pouched eggs at home I haven't turned back and can't have my eggs any other way. Is that odd? It's the exact same item of food but scrambled, omelettes, fried, hardboiled are so not appealing to me anymore. Anyone else have this preference to a certain way of egg? There was about a half hour wait for brunch but Habit coffee is right next door and served as a great waiting space and London fog tea refuel.

Along the main highway there is an area called cobble hill and to the right of this small community is a lovely lavender farm. Walking around the farm is very tranquil maybe that is the reason lavender oil is highly used for aromatherapy and sleeping oils.

In Nanaomi we stopped at white sails brewing. In all honesty beer doesn't appeal to me but I have been trying to understand the art behind craft beer. I did really enjoy the ( what beer i had) They have an awesome large brewery with tons of seating and loads of games to have fun with.

That evening we stayed in parksville, the rathtrevor beach is so picturesque here and has the best walk way all along the beach which i took for my morning running. We stayed with an elderly couple at an airbnb. I think I decided what i want my retirement to look like. They were the sweetest couple so friendly and generous sending us off with gifts of soap and homemade cookies and hugs. This place was a 100 fold more than any hotel room could make me feel. I am a huge believer of Airbnb i have never had a negative experience thus far.

Tofino a town that has everything and hardly anything. ha! seriously though. It is so small but everything they have is amazing. The actives, the nature and of course the food is on point. Whenever we go to Tofino we stay at pacific sands Resort. Right on Cox bay your hotel room is literally on the ocean with everything in walking distance. This year they even have the Soul Sisters Surf rentals shop on the property. No need to go into town to rent our wet suits and boards anymore. Even though Tacofino has a food truck and two locations now in my home city a stop is always necessary or two when in Tofino, Make sure to get a freshi the watermelon and basil! and you can;t go wrong with anything on the menu. Steps away in the same complex is chocolate tofino. I have never had a gelato/ice cream that i literally talk about for days on end and always wish other ice cream spots had it. Must be my favourite. But the lavender honey gelato is unreal!
